H1N1 Prevention Methods and Current News

There is a saying that proves to be useful, especially in crucial times like this - preventing is better than curing. It applies to the current spread of the treacherous pandemic that has taken so many many lives in every corner of the world; the Influenza A (H1N1) or Swine Flu some may call it.

Current report shown that in England alone, 4,500  more people were diagnosed with swine flu. Death may show somewhat on a declining pattern but there is no signs of halt. Even the vaccine cost is estimated to crawl up to $20 per dose! (read more here, Swine flu vaccine to cost up to 20 dollars per dose: WHO)

The prevention of this virus is not something unachievable. It can be done in many ways with the help from everyone - yup, including and especially by those who has been inflicted by the virus:

Some of the prevention methods are :

  • If you have been diagnosed with H1N1, make sure you’re well quarantined after you’ve pay the visit to the hospital and not be admitted, especially from those who are at high risk from getting the virus from you. The minimum quarantine time is 7 days.
  • Increase your personal hygiene. Wash your hands more often, use private materials instead of sharing among few people, clean your house more often especially areas that are likely touchable by other people,
  • Avoid public places, and if you have to go to to these places still, be sure to wear a mask.
  • Wash your hand immediately after sneezing or coughing. Use tissue or handkerchief to cover your mouth while sneezing or coughing to avoid traces of liquid get into the air.
  • Practice healthy lifestyle by taking the necessary supplements, eat healthy food and drinks a lot of plain water especially. Do not restrain yourself from exercising but you should know the limits. You can still do small physical activities to stay active, but be sure to monitor your surrounding. Again, avoid training ground with a lot of people.
  • Be positive. A positive and healthy mind can motivate a person to ward away diseases and not to give in to sickness.

Many government of countries around the world has been implementing actions to control this influenza from further spreading by minimizing outdoor activities, reminding citizens of what they should do with the help of mass media and launching other precaution actions. For example, in Korea, school student’s are scheduled to have their temperature check every morning before entering the school gates.
