Harmful Ultra Violet Radiation or UV Rays

Some says UV or ultra violet rays are the ultimate enemy to women’s skin.

Even if it is not entirely false, every woman should be aware of the effects of UV rays towards the skin and the consequences of overexposure. By right, having the sun shining on your body is actually something good and could keep you happy and healthy. The sun is our number one source of Vitamin D, which most of the needed supply comes from the sun. But too much sun can cause you more harm than you could ever imagine. Being out in the sun for a long time can damage your skin cell, cause severe sunburn and in a long-term exposure with taking any precautions, the condition can even lead to skin cancer which is vital.

The UV Index Indicator

One way for you to know the intensity of UV rays in daylight is by knowing the UV Index. UV Index is a measurement developed by the National Weather Service and the US Environmental Protection agency which help people in detecting the strength of solar UV radiation. When you know and understand how the UV index works, you will have a good idea of the suns effects and what you can do to protect your skin and body in the best way. Overexposure of UV rays is mainly contributed by global warming activities which eventually lead to many harmful and vital diseases. Read more about Global Warming Health Risk.

How to read UV Index

UV Index is scaled from 0(lowest) and any reading above 10 is considered very dangerous, especially for anyone with fair skin. The same intensity of UV rays is more hazardous to people with fair skin than people with dark skin.

You should think of staying indoors when the reading reaches more than 10 on scale. The UV index is very useful because it is going to measure not only the heat from the sun but also the ozone, clouds, haze and pollution in any area on any day, which in so many ways affect the level of UV Index.

According to UV Index report on the weather news, the readings are usually taken at noon, when the numbers are at peak. Meaning that the sun’s rays are not always as harmful as what you see on the reports, however, you should not take this for granted and always be prepared to protect your skin by wearing protective clothes, sunblock and sunscreen to avoid cases of severe sunburn as such, sunglasses, hats and avoid staying outdoors for too long during extreme weathers.
