Dandruff is the most common problem a person may face in their entire life, sometimes mild and sometimes it may tend to be severe. It is a condition that causes dryness of the scalp, that will eventually leads to flaking and itching.
According to scientific research, the major culprit of this problem is yeasts. However, this is a pretty vague assumption and not all kind of yeast is the cause to dandruff problem. There is a type of yeast that grows on the skin of our head. It is so small that it can practically have access into the tiny oil gland on the scalp and can go just as deep. Please remember that yeast is a living organism. These microscopic yeast actually lives in the oil glands and feast on the oil as its food, gradually leaving the scalp dry without the original oil discretion to moisture the hair and scalp. It is actually the absence of oil that causes the dryness and flaking, and dryness in due course leads to itching. The result is Seborrheic Dermatitis which is the medical name for dandruff.
The answer is a simple yes. A severe case of dandruff can lead to hair loss. The existence of yeast in a considerable amount can cause inflammation (plus the itching). Constant scratching can even cause skin breakage, bleeding and infection as well which consequently direct to temporary hair loss. If the situation gets worse, it may lead to a condition called folliculitis. Permanent hair loss is often caused by a chronic case of folliculitis.
If you have a normal degree of dandruff problem, it is sufficient that you get a special dandruff treatment shampoo which easily available at common drugstore or pharmacy.
